Knee Surgery Q & A

What types of knee surgery are available?

Meniscectomy

A meniscectomy is a surgical procedure which removes only the damaged part of a meniscus leaving healthy tissue behind to maintain normal knee function. Dr. Rose needs to make only small incisions to remove damaged cartilage. This ensures you can heal faster than you might with open surgery.

Benefits of arthroscopic meniscectomy include:

  • Less pain
  • Faster recovery
  • Less bleeding
  • Minimal scarring
  • Quicker return to play

Knee arthroscopy

Knee arthroscopy is a type of minimally invasive knee surgery. The procedure requires only small incisions to access the inner structures of your knee. Dr. Rose uses specialized surgical tools to repair or replace the knee joint without causing unnecessary trauma to the surrounding tissues.

Knee arthroscopy is useful both as a diagnostic and therapeutic  procedure for the following conditions:

  • Torn meniscus
  • Dislocated kneecap
  • Ruptured ligaments
  • Loose bodies
  • Cartilage conditions

ACL reconstruction

ACL reconstruction is needed to rebuild the ACL completely. For ACL reconstruction, a new ACL is made from a graft of replacement tissue from either a portion of the patient’s own source or tissue from an organ donor. The surgery is performed with minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques. In most cases, it takes 6-9 months for patients to return to their sports and fitness activities after completing a rehabilitation process.

Meniscus repair

This type of procedure requires only small incisions to access the soft tissues of your knee. He may remove damaged pieces of tissue (meniscectomy) and suture the remaining structure together, so it can heal properly.

Following meniscus repair surgery, Dr. Rose monitors your healing process and focuses on restoring your normal knee function through physical therapy and at-home exercises.
