Knee Replacement Q & A
Why would I need a knee replacement?
You may be a candidate for knee replacement surgery if you have a degenerative joint disease.
If you experience pain or other symptoms that affect the mobility or function of your knee, you should schedule a consultation with Dr. Rose as soon as possible. He can determine if knee replacement surgery is the right treatment for chronic symptoms like:
- Pain
- Stiffness
- Inflammation
- Limited range of motion
Dr. Rose evaluates the severity of your joint damage and can determine if he needs to replace the whole joint or just certain damaged areas of the joint.
What happens during knee replacement surgery?
To replace your knee joint without causing unnecessary trauma to your body, Dr. Rose uses the KneeAlign system from OrthAlign®. The handheld, smart technology provides Dr. Rose with live navigation of the inner structures of your knee to ensure accurate placement and alignment of the artificial replacement joint.
How long does it take to recover from knee replacement surgery?
As everyone heals at their own pace following surgery, Dr. Rose can tell you what to expect during your recovery at your initial consultation.
In many cases, you can expect to be off work and physical activity for several weeks. However, Dr. Rose will start you on a rehabilitation program and physical therapy in a day or two after surgery to restore function in your knee joint.
To assist you with walking and to prevent falls, you may benefit from using crutches or a walker. Dr. Rose continues to monitor the healing of your incisions to prevent infections and other complications.
Many people return to their normal routine within three months of surgery, and Dr. Rose can determine when it’s safe for you to resume strenuous activities and exercise.
